Caramel Milk - The Ultimate Cure for a Sore Throat (Original Recipe with Pictures)

When we were children, every time we had a cold, sore throat or a stuffy nose, our grandma solved it with burning sugar. Maybe you haven't heard of this one before, but it's pretty widespread in the Balkans. Most importantly, this cure really works! It's also pretty tasty, if you like sweet caramel. For stuffy nose, you should just burn some sugar directly on the stove and inhale it to the best of your abilities. It has a really strong smell, but it is sure to clear your head. For sore throat, put two big spoons of sugar in a small pan. It should have a thin bottom so the sugar can burn up faster.

After about 5-10 minutes, it will start melting. You want it completely liquid and golden brown, but not dark brown, not burning.

Once melted, remove it from the stove and pour cold milk over it. There will be a sort of hsss sound :) The milk will freeze the caramel and it will break like ice.

Continue cooking it until you feel with a spoon that most of the sugar melted off into the milk. You should also see the milk change the color into a light cream, light brown. Don't cook it to boil, just enough that sugar melts.

Pour it into a cup and drink immediately. You can put a bit of cinnamon, or maybe a cardamom pod. I put a spoon of nutmeg, to make sure it knocks me out unconscious so I don't have to suffer through this cold anymore :)

One small spoon of nutmeg won't do much to get you high, but four to eight spoons is sure to make you hallucinate and feel as though you can't get out of bed for days. Once I accidentally put this dose into a soup, thinking what the hell. Well, three hours later, me and my bf were crawling around the house, feeling like we're about to die, speaking incoherently. It was a nightmare, so I don't recommend getting high on nutmeg, but a little bit of it will make you sleepy and warm.

In any case, friends, if you have a sore throat, can't swallow or breathe and don't know what to do with yourself, try this sweet cure! Depending on the severity of your case, maybe you will have to drink it two times a day for a day or two, but it is guaranteed to help. That is all. Good night and thanks for reading!
