Citrus × tangelo 🍊
Citrus × tangelo or tangelo is a citrus fruit derived from the hybridization of a mandarin and a grapefruit, hence its name: TANGERINE and pomELO.
It is known under the trade names Ugli or Mineola
Ugli
It is a fruit of more or less deformed aspect, of a size between that of an orange and that of a grapefruit.
Its bark, wrinkled and thick, peels easily and is generally yellow-orange, sometimes green or red. The juicy pulp resembles that of a grapefruit, in addition sweetened and with flavors of orange.
It is sometimes decorated with an outgrowth in the peduncle. It is generally eaten, once peeled.
Originally from Jamaica, it has been exported since 1930.the production period runs from December to April in the northern hemisphere.
Minneola or Mineola
Named after the city of Minneola in Florida is a hybrid of grapefruit "Duncan" and mandarin "Dancy" obtained in 1931 by Horticultural Research Station of Orlando.
It is a beautiful orange-colored fruit, with a shiny and grainy zest, juicy, the pulp is of a saturated orange color.
The fruit is spherical, it has a collar and its size is that of an orange. It is harvested at the end of January and February in the northern hemisphere.
I tasted Mineola, they are the size of an orange and are slightly elongated on one end, pear-shaped. It is not bad at all !! It is easy to peel, with a thick skin and that stands out well. I did not see any pips.
The quarters are very juicy and have a good balance between sugar and acid. The bitterness is discreet.
I advise you to taste it is delicious 😊🍊
