Parisian Gourmet - Day 2

One thing I like about Paris, and France in general, is their lunch culture. While the hours of restaurants are a little too "traditional" for me (lunch from 12:00 until 14:00, dinner from 19:00 until 22:00, and most of the restaurants are hermetically closed in between), at lunchtime you tend to get much better meal deals than in the evening, and that goes for most restaurants, from the lowliest of hell-holes all the way up to Michelin-starred restaurants.

For those of you who don't know the Michelin restaurant guide, this is, supposedly the guide for high-quality restaurants worldwide. If you're a chef in a restaurant with a Michelin star, you're definitely worth a visit. Two Michelin stars - people make detours to get to your restaurants. Three Michelin stars - people will book their tour according to your availability. And, obviously, the prices of dishes in those restaurants are somewhere between "quite high" and "not affordable for most people", depends on the location, the popularity, and the general hype.

However, at least in France, Michelin restaurants offer a "business menu" for people on a budget. This menu offers little to no choice of dishes for the diners, but the dishes themselves are always of high quality, and you get to enjoy a meal in a top quality restaurant, for the price you would have paid in other places, which got lesser ratings. So for every happy or big occasion, I find myself looking through the Michelin website in France, searching for new restaurants that offer a reasonably priced lunch menu (reasonably priced, just to put thing in proportion, is 30-60 Euros per person, for a 3-course menu, with tap water as beverage, and no wine).

This lovely photo was taken at a wonderful restaurant with 1 Michelin star, called La Table d'Eugène. The meal was great, the service was absolutely pleasurable, and as you can see, the dish, containing fish and various vegetables and crumble of sorts, was lovely. I really recommend going there.
