RE: In the Restaurant's Kitchen: Balkan Style Baked Potatoes

in #food8 years ago (edited)

I think I've seen my landlord cook this exact dish up sometimes. I love Bulgarian cooking, so friggin delicious.

I'm not sure about this fighting thing though. Maybe that's just for the people from Pernik ;)

I take offense, sir. Folks from the east coast are just as vulgar and violent!

Btw, your frozen vegetables and egg dish is quite good, but it's not a complete food. You will be missing at least calcium and vitamin E. There's obviously a lot of calcium in dairy products, but I also recommend sesame seeds. Vitamin E is obtained from a spoon of either sunflower or olive oil.

Be sure to consume vitamin D - it is produced by exposing ourselves to sunlight; very few foods have it, and in minimal quantities. Buy a cheap bottle of Vigantol (7-8 BGN) from the pharmacy and take five drops, twice a week. It will last you for months.

Without vitamin D, even the small amounts of calcium you take, won't be absorbed, leading to joint and muscle stiffness, pain and frequent colds. This vitamin (it's actually a hormone) is an essential part of the immune system. Low levels also lead to depression.

Have fun!

I have made a revision to my recipe that includes a mix of sesame, linseed, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. I found I can get a bag of them quite cheap and I throw them in first and let them fry/roast up a bit before I put in the vegetables.

Might be why my energy levels are ticking up now, I eat maybe a tablespoon of these seeds with every meal now. Perhaps also the amount of time I've been spending in the sun as well. And the walking.

Terrible weather today though. I think this qualifies as the official beginning of Autumn today. At least, the weather is autumny.

Good to hear! We should soon have a week or two of "tzigansko lyato". The racist season :D
