I travel the world Part 21: Noma (Copenhagen)

in #food8 years ago (edited)

I have visited 2-Star Michelin Restaurant Noma in Copenhagen (rated world best restaurant in 2010/2012/2013/2014) a while back.

The restaurant is located in an old warehouse in Christianshavn (Central Copenhagen) and is run by chef René Redzepi.

Noma is receiving 100.000 booking request per month, so you have to be flexible with your dates. We received a call in the morning that a spot had opened and we jumped into the plane and went to Copenhagen.

The Food

Noma offers an Interpretation of Nordic/Scandianvian cuisine. I am using the word Interpretation, because the food they offer, you have not eaten anything like this before.

"Vegetables and foraged ingredients take centre stage, but don’t be  fooled, this isn’t your ordinary restaurant fare. Simple-sounding dishes  such as apples and lemon thyme, cabbage leaves and white currants, new  Danish potato and nettle and sliced raw squid and kelp provide  explosions of taste and texture, with ingredients shown in a different  light to how many will have previously experienced them. " Quote from the worlds best 50

We had the full 12 course menu (appr. 280$)

Beautiful Food (yes we had to eat that sponge, which was not a sponge at all)L1010001
The food is stunning

You expect a dessert, it turns out to be fish

They fool you into thinking they are serving you a bone, while this was part of our main course and was a mousse !

So this restaurant is absolutely incredible.

You are served food, which is best described as art... !

The taste is so incredible, it blows you away for hours.

They create the perfect illusion, you expect that chocolate cookie to be a dessert, while it is fish covered with chocolate. They serve you a bone, but its filled with fish mousse. They serve you something looking like flowers, and you can eat the whole flower, it turns out to be seaweed..

The best thing was the special Danish Butter they had with bread. That was the best butter i have ever eaten in my life!! (I would pay 100$ for 100g of that Butter)

Please have a look at the pictures, and if you want to go to the restaurant, hurry as the restaurant is closing end of 2016 ! (please ask where i can buy that butter!)

You killed spongebob O.O
But looks tasty :)

it was so amazing. sorry that we ate spongebob

No problem at all. I had done the same. Looks really delicious.

haha yeah . but you never know what they are serving you. because everyting looks totally different...

280$ is not that bad actually! I thought it would be much more expensive. I think I will put myself up on the queue. I only live right across the bridge in Sweden after all. I'm glad you enjoyed the experience!

hello, yes you should try , as its a really super experience. and 280$ is ok.

I would love to try this food! It looks delicious!

it is delicious. if you want to go, you have to try to get a reservation as its closing soon for renovation and moving to a new location

Fish with chocolate? ... Really? ... I mean: fish with chocolate??? This could only taste really good or really bad. There is nothing in between. :-)

its quite perfect ! but yeah they really mess with your mind !

I've heard a lot about Noma. How expensive is it compared to other similar restaurants. $280 sounds like a lot but I know that these kind arty restaurants are generally very expensive.

well, it was rated no1 restaurant in the world several time. 280$ is not that expensive at all.
but if you drink wine etc. you will end up more like 350$ per person.

its worth it , its incredible !

So definitely worth it though? I've only been to a handful of Michelin starred restaurants and they were all really expensive. Most of the times I had to go to McDonalds afterwards because despite the multiple courses the actual amount of food was tiny lol!

yeah. tempura is only good if you eat it in a real tempura restaurant. the rest is not real tempura...

No it doesn't compare. That's why I must go back to Japan!

haha. yeah this one is worth it. but i have to say, that i hate eating in star restaurants, as it usually takes a couple of hours to complete the menus.

so i would prefer a good ramen 80% of the time...

Give me some fresh sashimi, sushi or tempura and I will never complain lol! I don't think you can beat Japanese food for taste, healthiness, speed or value for money.
Maybe the tempura isn't so healthy I suppose though.

Beautiful pictures and interesting. Wow, I would like to try some of the dishes!

it really messes with you mind. you eat something expecting a dessert and its a fish. etc.

Wow Top Thank you for sharing this Moment with US upvoted

hello achim. thank you so much . it is definitely one of my favorite restaurants

oh wow. I will have to put it on my "must try" list. I've seen so many shows where they show dishes like that. It looks like one thing but taste like something absolutely different! Sounds so confusing but super cool. I really want to experience something like that =)

yes, it is really funny. they bring you something looking like stones, and than you can eat it, or you get something looking like a tree limb and its some sort of food ;)

Please have a look at the pictures, and if you want to go to the restaurant, hurry as the restaurant is closing end of 2016 !

What? Why they is closing?

i heard they will close and open at a new location . after a decade many top restaurants close. el bulli did the same
