Sweet rolls with jam

Sweet rolls are my favorite thing to have with afternoon coffee. They are not too sweet but at the same time sweet enough to complement bitter coffee flavor. In Poland they are a very popular snack when you crave something that is a little bit sweet but not too much.  Enjoy the recipe!!

Ingredients:

  • 500g (1.1 lbs) flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tbs sugar 
  • 250g (0.55 lbs) butter
  • 3/4 glass of milk plus a little bit to glaze before baking
  • 50g (1.8 ounce) of fresh yeast or 25g (0.88 ounce) of dry yeast
  • pinch of salt
  • jam or marmalade
  • optional: 10 tbs of powder sugar 
  • optional: 4 tbs of hot water mixed together

Steps:

1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk and set it aside till they start creating bubbles.

2. Melt butter and set it aside to cool a bit. Beat eggs with sugar and salt. 

3. Add yeast, melted butter and sieve flour to the beaten eggs.

4. Knead the dough until it doesn't stick to your hands anymore.

5. Take peaces of dough and roll form thin, long strips (there should be 20-24 of them)

6. Form rolls, place them on a baking tray and let them rest till the dough doubles its volume, then add jam.

7. Glaze dough with a bit of milk and bake in preheated oven at 180 oC (350 F) for 30-40 minutes, until top is golden brown.

8. Optional: Prepare icing by mixing powder sugar with hot water. When ready pour it on still hot rolls.
