I totally concur with @sneak submittion that we are experiencing a DDos attack and for me it is probably from people who feel that steemit is a treat to their survival. For my love and support for this community, i am updating my previous post to this one in solidarity.

What is a DDos attack
According to wikipedia, in computing issues, a denial of service attack (Dos attack) can be said to be a cyber attack where those involved in the illegal act tries to make a network resource unavailable to its users by temporarily or indefinitely disrupting service of a host connected to the internet, in this very case steemit.com which can be accomplished by flooding the targeted machine with superfluous request so as to try and overload the system thereby preventing legitimate requests from being carried out.

Perpetrators of this criminal act using Dos attacks mostly target services hosted on high profile web servers such as credit card payment gateways, banks, block chain etc and issues related to envy, revenge, blackmail or activism may be a motivation to these criminal attacks...We have other related sites you can use to access your steemit page if such happens like busy.org, chainbb.com or for those using mobile phones eSteem.

Conclusion: Ddos attack is usually perpetrated by criminals who are envious of a highly successful site this time steemit because of the future projections of steemit taking over the block chain space as such, criminals may use all possible tactics to try and reduce our speed but we will not allow them. Let us always keep steeming hot and support what @ned is doing especially his SMT plans which will see steemit take over come 2018.
