My First Time To Try Bicol's Sili Ice Cream

in #food7 years ago (edited)
Hello there Steemit friends!

Currently in Bicol right now, and we're here to have a good time and try out some Bicolano dishes, besides witnessing the famous perfect cone, Mayon Volcano. We arrived in Legazpi City last Saturday at around almost 5pm. From the airport, we went to RH Inn where we are staying until our last day in Bicol, which would be tomorrow.

After we settled down, we decided to proceed to Ayala mall which is a few walks away, that's approximately 10 minutes or so, so that we could have our dinner because everyone's famished already.

My friends who are fond of food trip suggested that we try out 1st Colonial Grill. It is one of the famous restos here in Bicol, which served delicious Bicolano dishes, and is also known as the home of the original "sili ice cream".

The Food

The seven of us availed the same "bsm meal" that includes a serving of tinapa rice, "lechon kawali", and pancit guisado. In addition, we also had the famous "bicol express", as well as "ginataang santol" and "pinakbet". Some of us ordered pink lemonade for their drinks and the rest ordered iced tea.

In my personal view, the food was so good. We were so full and satisfied. We were surprised that the "ginataang santol" turned out delish. I mean, we expected that it would be weird, given that this was the first time we heard that santol is made as a dish. Their "bicol express" was yummy although it was not that spicy, but we were okay with it.

The Sili Ice Cream

People say that if you go to Bicol, you should taste their sili ice cream. It is a must-try. The sili ice cream has different levels that match the degree of spiciness. It ranges from level 1, 2, 3 and volcano level that pertains to the superlative. We tried out the latter flavor.

Indeed, it was too spicy but I can still taste the creaminess at the same time. The fire on my tongue, caused by the spiciness of the ice cream, caused a tingling sensation in my mouth up until my ears as I ate the dessert.

It was another great adventure on food tripping. The staff provided us some milk as well, just in case any one from us could not bear it.

Aside from the sili ice cream, we also tried an unusual flavor which was the "malunggay ice cream". It verily tastes like malunggay leaves, of course, with added ingredients to make it an ice cream. I did not personally like it, but some of my friends love it.

We all have different tastes 'though, so who knows you might also like the Bicolano dishes. Don't missed it when you visit Bicol. Thanks for dropping by.
