KF 101(Korean food intro)-8 “Pajeon”

in #food7 years ago

Hello~!

This time I will talk about “Pajeon 파전.” This is the typical Korean style pancake. ‘Pa’ is green onion, and ‘jeon’ is pancake. So if it is potato pancake then it is “Gamjajeon 감자전.” If it is seafood (greenonion) pancake then it is “Haemulpajeon 해물파전.” And yeah Kimchi can be applied for everything, there is “Kimchijeon 김치전” too.

First let’s take a look!

First this is typical pajeon. I actually like the dish so much hehe, I want to get it. So pretty :-P. We usually eat it with the soy sauce with bit of chili pepper and sesame seeds, and from time to time also bit of vinegar. Especially, if you fry this with oil with strong fire, it becomes really crispy outside.

This is seafood pajeon. You can put mussel, seashell, shrimp, squid, octopus, anything you like. You may dare even put shark!! if you can survive from fishing haha. With the seafood, you put veggies. Yumyum.

This is Gamjajeon, potato pancake. You can grind the potato and with floor and frying powder, you can fry this or grill basically. It becomes so crispy outside and so soft inside. And yeah as decoration but also as a flavor too, you can put some chili pepper and any green vegetable. Looks like flower on it. Ah this is irresistible flavor.

Lastly, this is Kimchi jeon! Usually kimchi has stronger scent when it gets fermented quite long, and if it is grilled, the scent becomes quite weak. Anyway once you try this, you will love this so much. You know, if you put old cheese on the burger and eat it, it is also amazing. I think the more fermented the certain preserved food, when it is grilled or cooked, the better it makes.

People in Korea think of this food when it is a rainy day. A food journalist says it might be because the scent stays longer in the air when it is rainy, so that people near the restaurant cannot resist but end up going into the restaurant and eat pajeon. Later, I may tell you the relatives of pajeon which is called “Bindae-ddeok” which is also very tasty and loved when it is rainy.

People usually eat pajeon (or whatever jeon) with Makgeoli which is Korean rice drink. They make a really good combination. Some restaurant also mix it with fruit which is quite interesting. Especially, if you have a chance, you should go to the brewery. I know one quite famous brewery called “Sansawon 산사원.” It is totally different from what people drink in most of restaurant or bought in the market.

Anyway hope you liked this post! Don’t forget to press vote button, follow this blog.

Next time, I will talk about “Gyeran jjim” which is steamed egg. This is quite simple, but so tasty!
