Mouth Watering Filipino Native Delicacies
Either for snacks or dessert, there are lots of Filipino native delicacies you can try. I assure your tummy will end up smiling just as your face will do.
In our province, one of the most popular is Puto Calasiao (rice cake) which was molded in a tiny bite-sized, but has a large delicious taste. It was often bought from pasalubong stores. But what are some authentic Filipino delicacies that you must try? Do check below.
Disclaimer: These foods (or some) will make your mouth water.
Cassava Cake
We call cassava in the Philippines as kamoteng kahoy. It can be cooked in a lot of ways either boiled, made as pudding, and the famous cassava cake by which it was grated and be formed as what you can see in the picture below.
It has cheese and macapuno on top to add flavor.
Pichi-pichi
The main ingredients of pichi-pichi is cassava. It just add water, sugar, and a few ingredients to taste. Form in a mold, steem, and there it goes. Top with grated coconut on top.
This is good for a snack. Not too costly. The one in the picture was bought from a bakeshop.
Bibingkang Latik
This is one of the most famous native cakes in the Philippines. Bibingkang Latik was made of glutinous (sticky) rice, sugar, coconut milk, and latik which was a kind of sugar being caramelized and spread on top of the rice cake. It can either be cooked in charcoal or oven.
This is good for either snack or dessert.
Fried banana
Fried banana can also be fried with sugar and thus be eaten in a stick which we call banana cue.
This one was fried without sugar.
Champorado
Champorado is one of the famous breakfast of Filipinos. It is chocolate rice porridge by which you can use either cocoa or tableya to give chocolate flavor for this delicacy.
Champorado was often partnered with tuyo (salted dried fish), which I initially thought as weird, but it really tastes good.
Halo-halo
Everybody likes halo-halo especially during summer! Mixing tapioca, nata de coco, gelatin, banana, sweet potato, beans, watermelon, etc., you can make a good snack or dessert.
Others can make halo-halo with any ingredients of one's choice. Those sold in restaurants are often topped with ice cream and leche flan. To be honest, nothing beats the homemade one.
Silvanas
Some may not be familiar of silvanas but this one is a must try. With buttercream sandwiched by meringue wafers, the sweetness and a bit of salty makes a great dessert.
One of the tastiest is the one from Cabantuan City, Nueva Ecija.
Buchi
Made with rice molded into round-shape, it has bean paste inside, and was covered with sesame seeds, and fried.
Buchi is among those being sold in Chowking like what you see in the photo.
