Fabulous Ichiban Sushi: Don’t Mind if I Do

At Ichiban Restaurant,

I enjoyed a thoroughly superb sushi lunch today with a client in Saigon’s District 1.

This is my favourite sushi restaurant in town and it is always a pleasure to go here. The restaurant can be found at 204 Le Lai in the heart of the city. Although not far from the backpacker area, this is also close enough to the Central Business District.

The Food

Ichiban’s food is sensational, gorgeously presented as one would expect from Japanese sushi restaurants it remains within the budget of most people. Sushi is one of my favourite indulgences; so expensive in the West it is extremely reasonable in Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam.

I love the care and attention that sushi chefs pay to their dishes, the clean taste of the food and the ambience that they create. Ichiban are creative and brave with their presented dishes, none more so than their Mexicali rolls which are served warm and are definitely a cross of cultures between Mexico and japan.

You could almost walk past Ichiban without even noticing it. The entrance is just a single shop size and it is only the addition of a new sign that makes it stand out on the street. Once inside though it is obvious that this is a very nice place indeed.

This whole meal including drinks came to a grand total of $35 for two people. It represents amazing value and It’s no wonder that this is gaining such a terrific reputation.
