District Federal: Authentic Mexican food in the midst of Saigon’s District 2.
We have a new Mexican restaurant here in District 2, and it’s a cracker. I am delighted that I like it because they demolished my favourite “Bo Koh” restaurant to build it. District Federal is a great space with an indoor bar/restaurant area and a lovely open fronted space for those who prefer warm air to air con.
For my first visit here I just went with the soft tacos. I had three, one beef, one chicken and one fish. There were all great but the fish was sensational. All washed down with a cold glass of Tiger beer, this was a the perfect Sunday afternoon dining experience.
One small criticism, it really should be no smoking inside. To see a line of people smoking at the bar with people seated next to them eating was not great. I am so glad I didn’t sit at the bar.
Prices are ok with beers at less than 2 dollars and the tacos running out at about $7.00 for three. People should bear in mind that this is mexican and not Tex-Mex, so down expect everything to be fiery hot. The tacos were absolutely beautiful but not what American might be used to.
