What a great post, @galberto! In the book, Mushrooms of the Southeastern United States, by Alan Bessette, they say this mushroom is not edible. They don't say it's toxic, but just inedible. I think they don't know what you and your people know from their traditional foraging. Thank you so much for this.

I really like the pictures of the collection of mushrooms. Their kidney shape is so clear! And the 1st and 3rd pictures, are better than I have seen on expert mushroom websites. The 3rd image shows so clearly how the white tubes stop at the top of the stalk of the mushroom. That's a distinctive feature!

The way you are cooking this mushroom looks so delicious! It looks like a substantial meal!

I hope someday that I find this mushroom. It's supposed to be in the southeast US, so maybe I will! :D
