They do have a flavor, but it's yucca, lol. Maybe like a mild green bean flavor. But in this recipe, it adds to a more complex flavor rather than stand out on its own. Just like in a stew, it's hard to say what some of the ingredients taste like. I've got other recipes, that I'll post about, where the flavor stands out more.
