I suspect the parties began last night for some of you. I can assure you that here in Chile, they have without question begun.
I know this is a post about Maple Sausgae Corn Dogs, but I have to mention the holidays here in Chile. Here are the top four holidays in Chile, top meaning the ones where they party the hardest. 1. Independence Day 2. New Years Eve 3. Easter 4. Christmas. By far, Independence Day and News Years Eve are the ones where the most drinking and bar-b-queing are going on. It can get rowdy.
Ok, so you're reading this for the Maple Dog, not for me rambling about holidays in Chile. So, let's get on with it:
American breakfast sausage, it doesn't exist here in Chile. So, from time to time, I get inspired to make some. For those that are familiar with American breakfast sausage, often referred to as country sausage, you'll know it has it's own flavor. It takes a lot of spice to make it taste that way, let me tell you.
Well, if you haven't guessed it already, the country sausage that I grew up with, it's not available here in Southern Chile.
I've mentioned this several times, but my Dad has a friend from Venezuela that has been living with us now for over 3 months. It has been a ton of fun preparing dishes that he has never tasted. Corn dogs, normal corn dogs are one of those things. I've prepared those at least 4 or 5 times since he has been here and he loves them. Not such animal in Venezuela. So, with the corn dog inspiration, I decided to give a go at breakfast sausage on a stick
Let's just say it was a huge hit here in my crazy house, so much so, I recreated again just so I could take pictures.
So imagine any sausage of your choice wrapped in a blanket of maple flavored corn meal batter, dipped in a deluctible honey butter. No really, take a moment to imagine it. How does it taste? If you'd like to create it yourself, you can.

I am sorry I missed this during it's first payout period. Man, that looks so good. This could be the new super food of the food truck world! Seriously. If I saw this for sale at a food truck, I could not resist it.
I know what you mean about seeing it on a food truck. Corn dogs of any type are very much a USA thing. I think that's why the post bombed is because the rest of the world has no clue what a corn dog is. We had friends of frineds over on new years from Austria and they had never heard of such a thing. I can tell you for sure that Chileanos have no idea what it is.
I don't know why, but that made me laugh out loud. Who would know what a corn dog is, except folks from the US? I never thought about that, but they are a crazy food and uniquely American, I bet you are right. I wonder how the Chileanos like them, once they try them, though. How could they not like your version here?
Oh yeah, they like them once they try them, it's just getting them to try them. The Chileanos are NOT risk takers. Very hard to get most of them to try anything new
