Lavender(Lavandula)

General info

Lavender is a bush and can reach 1m in height and wide. Its leaves are 2-5cm long and 1-2cm wide. Its flowers are purple or grey purple 3-5cm long.
Its name comes from the latin word lavare which means wash. The story says that Mediterranean people use it for over 2500 years and the herb comes from India.

Stories about it

It was used by Arabs in antiquity in the region of today's Iraq. In ancient Egypt was used in taxidermy , in cosmetics, in aromatic ointments, in massage oils and also as a medicine of the era.
In ancient Hellas , Dioskourides and Galhinos , known doctors of the era were using it for its healing properties. It was also used for perfuming their baths and beautification of the skin. They were also smashing and burning the leaves and flowers of the herb as their smoke was offering relaxation.

Healing effects/Properties/Uses

infusion :

-If you suffer from insomnia , boil 200-250ml water and throw in 1 big spoon of lavender flowers . Leave it for 10' and drink with honey. It will act as a soft hypnotic.
-It reliefs from headaches ,fatigue and weakness.
-Gargles help with mouth ulcer.
-Strengthens the gums.
-Helps with bowel's gasses.

essential oil :

-Dilution 0.2:1000, is fighting tuberculosis bacteria.
-Breathing the steam from boiling it in water will fight pneumococcal and haemolytic streptococci. Also relaxes and fights depression.
-As an insect impeller.
-Massage for headaches , swelling , bruises .
-It is used as an antidote for poisons.
-Massage in the chest , strengthens the lungs and helps in Pneumonia therapy.
-For Sun burns use 8-10 drops diluted in water and put it on them. You succeed immediate relief.

other :

-Use the flowers and leaves in your drawers and wardrobes.
-Put some drops in your laundry machine or steam iron system to perfume your clothes.

Caution

It mustn't be used in big doses from pregnant, asthmatics and in allergic rhinitis cases.
In big doses it has narcotic action and causes colic and irritates the stomach .
