Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

in #food7 years ago

It is another amazing day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our volunteers today, cooking over fire on our indoor wood burning stove! As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you.

Cooking our dinner on the indoor cast iron wood burning stove also provides heat for our common room and heats water for showers too! We enjoy not only the warm coziness of being by the fire but also the many functions it serves!

Today we made an epic feast featuring a giant salad, sautéed onions and mushrooms, asparagus, turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce!

We love veggies, and we have a daily salad to feast on our bounty. Today's salad had layers of red onions, cauliflower, yellow squash, mushrooms, red tomatoes, carrots, and greens.

Everyone can serve themselves as much as they like, and dress it up to their exact preferences!

Here's one of our Eden Knight's dressed salads with feta, coconut bacon, dried cranberries, tahini, homemade vinegar, olive oil, and liquid aminos.

We made a large pan of sautéed onions and used them on their own as well as in a few other side dishes.

We used sautéed onions to make a large pot of stuffing, as well as celery and herbs like rosemary and sage. While baking it in the oven is a traditional preparation that makes the top nice and crispy, it can also be made quicker on the stove top, which is what we did today.

To moisten the bread crumbs for our stuffing, we used broth from a delicious turkey soup we had left over from feasts earlier in the week.

We used the sautéed onions in a quick side of asparagus too, which we then dressed up with lemon juice, olive oil, and liquid aminos.

To finish this bright green asparagus, we sprinkled on handfuls of hemp seeds and sliced almonds.

We also sautéed some nice mushrooms with onions and herbs. Mushrooms have lots of vitamin D, which the human body usually makes when exposed to sunshine. It's great to eat extra food sources of vitamin D especially in wintertime when many people spend more time inside and less time in the sun.

It was a great meal with lots of options for everyone to be fully satisfied!

After dinner, we steeped handfuls of our fresh garden herbs in hot water for yummy, wholesome, comforting tea. Today, we used lemon balm, oregano, and chocolate mint to make a unique blend.

Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!

There's those Onions again!

TBH I thought the cauliflower was actually feta or goats cheese crumbled on top of the salad (something I love to do personally). So that was kind of a interesting surprise to find out that it was the pretty much the complete opposite of cheese haha.

Just when I think I have you guys slightly figured out... bam the ol' cauliflower in the salad ;)

In all seriousness, Holy cow! That is some fine foodie work!

Keep making great sustainable food!

hahahahahahhaha thats what you get for trying to box us in!

it seems like the thing i can expect from you guys is the unexpected...

hahahaha yea if ur gonna put us in a box its that kinda box, the kind with no sides ;-)>

Epic feasting every day!!!!

Thats right!

That's how we roll!

It looks AMAZING! Since we moved we now have a range cooker all burner that heats the house, the water and cooks our food! I love it. It's so big I could cook a meal for 20 people on it in one go.

Thats awesome!

Mmmmm sounds fantastic! We're big fans of double & triple duty appliances as well as cooking for 20 people in one go :)

It sure is, that's why I love it too :) And so great to get the kids involved, because there are lots of things they can do for it. My daughter for instance loves to get wood for it and they all love helping to prepare food, so everyone gets involved. It also functions as a slow cooker for the first hour or so (until it really heats up) so it's easier to get everything done at the same time. It takes a while to get used to, but now I wouldn't want it anyway else.

Various ingredients are included and it looks very delicious.
I like to eat, so I am interested.

We like to eat too!! And we especially like to share food! Hope you continue to enjoy our sustainable feasts, @childcare!
