Diary of a Hearty Eater #08 : Trying Out the Family Burger at Mama Chit's - The Biggest Burger in Town
If you have heard of Mama Chit's before, then I wouldn't be surprised. This burger joint has been featured to a few local shows because of their burger; a whopping family burger that is almost 1-foot in diameter. What?
That was one of the reasons why we went back to this place. The first time we went here a few years back, we did not order their family burger; hearty eaters as we were back then, we were afraid we will not be able to finish it.
It's never too late to try it out....
Mama Chit's family burger
Me enjoying a quarter of the burger. Yeah. I prefer to use my bare hands; it makes eating it more comfortable.lol
a quarter of the family burger
There's a reason why family burger is called as such; you see, it is really meant to be eaten and shared with the family :)
Aside from the burger, walking inside Mama Chit's Coffee House also feels like walking inside a burger joint from the past. From coke memorabilias to ice crushers and iron used in the past to vintage slot machines, there are a lot of memorabilias to look and be amazed at.
Want to have a visual idea of what I'm talking about?
This is me contributing some coins to this huge glass jar of tips because I wanted to take part in filling it. If it wasn't that huge and hard to carry, I would have brought it home....partly because of the jar and mostly because of the coins :)
Cool right?
Here is something cooler though:
Nanay Dita's, the one who served to us gladly told us the story about Mama Chit's. (We also read it's history from one of their decorations). Sometime in the 1960's, Miss Felicitas De Guzman Dee (Chit to her friends), a lover of cooking and good food, established a restaurant in Marikina; "The Coffee House" which became famous in just a few years. Some prominent people back then (until now) ordered hamburger sandwiches from restaurant. Some were even asking for her recipe. Over the years however, the restaurant stopped operation and though some family member tried to operate a similar business, it did not go well as The Coffee House. 6 years ago, Felicitas' son and daughter in law put up a burger joint that served burgers the same way she did in the past.
Me with Nanay Ditas who had been with the family for years, and Adela Dee who is the daughter-in-law of Felecitas "Chit" Dee
We left the restaurant full and happy not only because of the food (but mostly because of it.lol) we consumed but because of the accommodating Nanay Ditas and Nanay Dela. They were happy to share with us the story of Mama Chit's (while playing with our daughter) and did not hesitate when asked if I can have my photo with them for steemit :)
So the next time you visit Marikina, check out this nice place with a vintage aura and try their burger which is as far as I know, the biggest and one of the best in town.
Or, just drop by for a nice pictorial :)
Thank you for dropping by. ❤
All the best! {always}

That burger is huge! It probably will take me two days to finish :-)
It will most probably. I only ate a quarter but I was so full it made me almost gag.
You should also try the filling station in makati! .. Food is great and has vintage theme too!. 😘
Ooohhh! Never heard of it before. Where is that exactly? Maybe we should try it out soon eh?
