Baking Lesson #1 with Kids.
Last week I had a biscuit day with my daughter. Shes enjoying making pretend biscuits from play dough, so I thought she will love to have a shot with the real thing.
I used simple shortbread recipe with some pink icing for decoration.
Ingredient:
250g plain flour
50g corn flour
½ tsp baking powder
100g icing sugar
1 whole egg
130g cold butter
Method:
Place all the ingredient in a mixer bowl and mix until it comes together to a dough
making sure not to over mix it.
Glad wrap the dough and place in a fridge for at least 30min
after that your ready to roll...
Over the time I accumulated a good selection of cookie cutters, but you can use any type.
It's great fun for kids to sprinkle flour and roll the dough.
Cutting different shapes and arranging them on the tray, it's a good exercise for the little fingers.
While waiting for the biscuits to bake (around 4min in 190°C / 374°F oven), you can enjoy a cup of coffee / milk like we did :)
You can prepare a simple icing by placing one cup of icing sugar in a bowl and adding lemon juice until you archive desired consistency.
I also added some pink colouring since it's Emily's favourite colour
I make piping bags out of baking paper and start squeezing icing onto the biscuits.
Emily also likes to decorate them with sprinkles
We were so happy with the results and Emily decided that we would celebrate with a teddy bear picnic in the living room.
