A lovely, round, chubby pig, a bearer of happiness and prosperity, is a popular motive for greeting cards for various occasions, especially for the new year, when we wish to be happy, rich and generous. In Europe, as well as many other places around the world, pigs are a classic symbol of abundance, wealth, happiness and satisfaction.

But this kind of pigs, I will write about today, will not bring you wealth or abundance, but only happiness and satisfaction. Especially, when you realize how simple they are to make. I must say I just can't get tired of my fantastic oven, so I am using every spare time to test it and make something for my family and friends.

So right to the point - to make the dough for those cuties you need the following ingredients:

  • 500g flour,
  • 30g fresh yeast,
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar,
  • 250 ml of milk,
  • 60g of butter,
  • 1 egg,
  • 10g of salt,
  • and whisked egg for coating.

To make a dough sift flour in a bowl, make a hole in the middle, and put in a crumbled yeast with sugar, and a small amount of milk. Cover, and let it rise for about 15 minutes. After that add the egg, salt, melted butter, and the rest of the milk, and make a smooth dough. Let it rest for about half an hour, then roll it approximately 1cm thick and cut out pieces needed to make pigs.

After that start putting them on a low tray covered with parchment paper. Every top surface has to be smeared with whisked egg, to make the assembly successful-egg works like glue.

Bake them for about 15minutes on 190°C or so long, that if you stick a toothpick in it it will remain clean, and the dough isn't stuck to it.

When baked you can make a finishing touch to them, and make them see. To prepare egg white paste for the eyes you will need:

  • 100g of ground sugar,
  • 20g of egg whites,
  • and a few drops of lemon juice.

For addition, you will also need some dark chocolate and prosciutto.

Whisk the sugar, egg whites, and lemon juice for so long, so you get a thick fluffy paste. From parchment paper make a cone, fill it with paste, and cut a small hole in the bottom. Draw white eyes on pigs, and in the middle of them make a smaller dark dot from the melted chocolate. Then let them dry. The final step is to cut with the knife horizontally (where pigs mouth should have been) and add a slice of prosciutto inside the cut.

I didn't have the time to make the eyes, so mine remained blind. But they were still delicious and disappeared almost faster then they were made. 😄

I hope I gave you the idea for a simple, and not so sinful treat for you and your loved ones.

Hehe. Thanks. I think they would be a success among kids, but also among adults. With various fillings, you can create versatile canapes or even mini burgers if you slice through the whole bun.

Ohh yes i am far from a kid coming up on 60 but I love the way they look and would happily have them :)
