How To Make Your Own Marbled Easter Eggs

This time of the year the shops are filled with Easter eggs in all shapes and sizes, made from chocolates, some just an empty chocolate shell, others with lovely fillings.

Chocolate Easter eggs are not the only way that eggs can be used during Easter time, though. Decorated eggs, painted eggs and even marbled eggs are very popular during Easter.

Here is my method for marbled eggs. It can lend a lot of color to your breakfast table and your guests are definitely going to spend some time discussing the merits of eating colored eggs.

• Boil eggs as you normally would.
• When the eggs have cooled completely, crack the shells all over with a knife.

• Decide how many colors you will use.
• Pour hot water into bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to make a dark solution.
• Put the eggs in the colored water and make sure that they are covered completely.
• Leave them in the water for about 30 minutes to allow the colors to be absorbed into the whites of the eggs.
• Take the eggs out of the water, dry and peel them. Serve with homemade bread or toast.

The patterns on the marbled eggs that you can see in the photos, did not come out as dark as I would have liked them to be, so next time I will definitely add more food coloring to the water before I add the eggs.
