Supermarket Decline As Stockpiling Eases

in #food4 years ago

Supermarket sales have started to decline as people come to a stop with their stockpiling that has been taking place over the past several weeks.

According to supermarket chain executives, the sales have started to see a clear downturn and they are taking this as a sign that people are not looking to stockpile like they might have been in the beginning of March not that long ago.

When the virus outbreak first took place they reported seeing at least a 50 percent increase in sales for supermarkets. For some the surge was even more, near 69 percent growth or more in buying.

Already they say that they've seen at least a 10 percent decline for some areas.

They expect that this is going to continue as people ease up on their stockpiling behaviors, if they do. They are seeing it as a shocking turnaround compared to what they were seeing only a few weeks ago with line-ups in various stores in countries all over the world for basic goods.

With many stores now restricting their hours though and only allowing a certain number of shoppers in at a time, this is also impacting sales. Now, more people might be looking to grab things from little corner stores or gas stations, instead of waiting in big lines outside of larger supermarkets.

Fears have increased recently though now that some processing plants and meat plants have been closed over the virus. The supply chain is obviously strained and experts insist it will take weeks, if not a month or more, to get up to the demand and get more on the shelves. There are many dedicated and capable individuals working to make sure that things keep going and that they can keep up with demand. Farmers around the world are still planting and growing, hoping to produce enough to feed their communities.

Went to buy some meat yesterday. They said they were all sold out. 4 people in a row came in and each took home $300 worth of meat. That was all they had.

It's hard to imagine that much meat being stockpiled and not going rotten.

Honestly, we have 3 stocked lakes here. I do real well without live bait, this could be a year for just eating lots of fish!

wow.. can say you'd never catch me doing that 💩stores should be putting limits on most items by now, mine has had a 2 pkg meat limit for weeks going on now

Nice pic! This makes me hungry!! I must have been a rabbit in my past life!
