Ulog 6: Broasted Chicken Birthday

Have you ever eaten food that's so delicious that you want to go back for it the very next day? Well it was just like it today and yesterday. It doesn't happen with me very often but the fried chicken that we had was really that good!

What fried chicken am I talking about? I'm talking about a homegrown brand that does fast food their own way unapologetically. They not only serve your regular items you find in a fast food menu but also local dishes particular dishes that are famous and staple in East Malaysia or Borneo as some would fall it.

I haven't actually tried the local items on the menu as of yet but as Sugar Bun wasn't found in West Malaysia up until recently, I've only ever tried their broasted fried chicken and I must say, ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!

So what's so good about this particular fried chicken? Well you often find a lot of other fried chicken that put a lot of effort into their spice mix for their flour and coating but neglect the chicken meat itself. Not so for these fried chicken from Sugar Bun. The meat is marinated and probably brined as well, making the flesh of the cooked chicken tasty, tender, and extra juicy!

Not to mention the skin stands up to the quality of the meat as well. Crispy, well seasoned and extremely flavorful yet isn't oily as you expect greasy fried chicken skin. I'm guessing that that's due to the way the chicken pieces are cooked which is a technique called broasting or as its most known for in their advertising that they serve broasted chicken.

What's broasted chicken?

First of all they have a pressure cooker deep fryer. Yep you can't actually get these kindda fried chicken without this thingamajig. It pressure cooks and deep fries a chicken at such a high temperature but locks in its juices for some reason and can't be achieved in any other form. The chicken aren't precooked and then deep fry like most fast food joints. They drench the chicken in a flour mix of herbs and spices on the spot and fried to order.

So today we went again and celebrated my wife's birthday with my mum and some friends who are to get married at the end of the month!

Was a good day spending time with the church family and friends. Thank God for wonderful people with great callings being your friends and family as well.
