Giant prawns

This large shrimp has a very recognizable characteristic, a pair of long and large claws, especially on male prawns. Another feature is the cone-shaped head, the body lengthwise and curved upward. Measuring 30 cm, no wonder this shrimp became the largest shrimp among pond shrimp and known as giant river prawn.

Giant prawns have the Latin name Macrobrachium rosenbergii and have various colors, some are turquoise, brownish green, brownish yellow, and spotted like tiger shrimp. Prawns are less a farmer's favorite because the treatments are quite difficult, plus these shrimp are cannibals. However, in some production centers, giant prawns are still cultivated because of high selling prices and able to penetrate export markets to Japan and European countries. Most of the giant prawns are located in Central Aceh and Java.
