아르헨티나 과자 알파호르 Heavenly Alfajores

오늘은 제가 한때 중독이 되어 즐겨 먹던 과자 알파호르에 대해서 소개드리려고 합니다. 때는 대학교 3학년 때의 일입니다. 당시 아르헨티나 출신의 룸메이트가 술이 만취된 상태로 돌아온 날이었습니다. 아직도 저는 그날을 잊지 못합니다. 룸메이트는 조심스럽게 옷장을 몇분간 뒤적이더니 정체 모를 박스를 하나 꺼냅니다. 제가 하바나 알파호르를 처음 본 순간이었죠. 룸메이트는 초코파이 처럼 생긴 과자를 건내면서 던진 한마디 "Enjoy" 저는 아직도 그때 그 순간을 잊지 못할 것 같습니다.

그 이후로 아주 특별한 날만 하나씩 꺼내먹으면서 즐기던 알파호르! 많이 먹지 못했던 건 매우 비싸기 때문이였죠. ㅎㅎㅎ 초코파이 크기 한개의 과자가 무려 5000원 정도 하거든요. 그러다가 한달여 전, 갑자기 몰려오는 알파호르 craving을 이겨내지 못하고 큰 마음을 먹고 결국 주문을 합니다. 한국에선 어디서 살 수 있는지 몰라서 결국 아르헨티나 -> 미국 -> 한국의 경로를 거쳐서 5박스를 구매하였습니다. 50불이라는 어마어마한 배송비와 2주의 시간을 기다리면서 말이죠.. ㅎㅎ

Today I want to introduce to you all one of my favorite treats: Alfajores. I still can't forget the first time I tried this. One weekend, during my junior year in college, my roommate comes back pretty drunk. He proceeds to go to the closet to rummage through his dirty clothes. Few minutes later, he reemerges with a cute little yellow box, and casually hands me a piece of what looked like a chocopie(korean snack) and simply says "Enjoy"

And oh my goodness, did I enjoy every bit of it! This scrumptuous little pie exploded in my mouth like little flavor bombs. I'm usually not into sweets, so I'm not sure what really did it for me that moment, but it was this night alfajores became one of my favorite snacks, one that I would indulge on special occasions, one that made me find myself drool over like Pavlov's dog whenever my roommate would visit his closet.
Hahaha but no seriously.

About a month ago, I started getting a really bad craving for alfajores. Mostly because I haven't had one for a very long time. Given that it is really hard to get these things in Korea, I ordered from amigofoods and had it delivered to the U.S. and then to Korea. This cost me $120!! ($50 was shipping. yeah I know....)

매우 비싸서 은행 잔고에 타격이 컷지만... 한개도 후회가 안되네요! 최고입니다. ㅎㅎㅎㅎ다음엔 Cachafaz 브랜드를 오더해볼까 합니다. ㅋㅋㅋ

You know what though? No regrets at all! It was worth every penny!! lol Next time I'm going for Cachafaz alfajores.
