Suprising Reasons to Eat More Blueberries and Healthy Blueberry Muffins with Crumb Topping Recipe!
Blueberries they are small, delicious but despite their size they are one of the highest antioxidant foods in the world. These berries are native to North America. The Native Americans ate these berries fresh and dried them up for in the winter. They used to make a meal called pemmican, which consists of berries that they mixed with meat. To finish they smoked and dried the meat.
They also used to make a pudding with blueberries. The berries were dried, and beaten into a powder. This blueberry powder was then mixed with honey, cornmeal and water to create a pudding called Sautauthig. Blueberries were not only used for the purpose of eating but they also used them for their medical properties. Blueberries were used for numerous medical purposes by Native Americans, which are now the subject of intensive scientific researches.
Blueberries contain antioxidants such as anthocyanins which is a compound that gives fruits and vegetables there deep red, purple and bleu hues. Recent studies has linked anthocyanins to numerous health benefits, including increased longevity, cardiovascular health, dementia and cancer prevention. Antioxidants also fight against free radicals. If free radicals are not eliminated from the body they can attack proteins, DNA and lipids inside our body. Resulting in cellular changes that result in diseases and even cancer.
Phytochemicals are chemical compounds found in plants. Not all phytochemicals are beneficial as cocaine and nicotine are also phytochemicals. But blueberries have a broad range of phytochemicals like flavonoids which have several health benefits. They boost our immune system and help against diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
One study from the University of East Angelia found that the consumption of blueberries and strawberries reduced the risk of a heart attack. To conduct the study they had 93,600 woman who volunteered aged between 25 to 42 years. While they conducted the study 405 woman died due to a heart attack. The woman who ate the most blueberries and strawberries had a 32 percent reduction in their risk of getting a heart attack. The woman who ate a diet rich in fruits and vegetables or ate the berries only once a month or less did not have this reduction. According to the Journal of the American Heart Association eating three or more servings of blueberries and strawberries a week, can reduce the risk of a heart attack by a third. Eating these berries in your younger age can even reduce your risk of a heart attack for your later years.
Frozen blueberries vs fresh blueberries
In a study they compared the anthocyanin content of frozen blueberries vs fresh blueberries. Anthocyanin are the antioxidants with several health claims including prevention against cancer and dementia. The berries that were frozen had a higher anthocyanin concentration. This due the fact as the ice crystals break open the cells of the berries which makes the antioxidant more accessible.

I eat blieberries alot. So delicious in my smoothies. I use frozen in them so interesting to know that when freezing they have a higher content. Also thanks for the recipes for face mask i did not know blueberries were used in face masks.
Yes I also add frozen blueberries inside my smoothies. I just love that you are able to store your bleuberries for longer and as you said they will even have a higher antioxidant concentration. :) One of my favorite mask from lush also has blueberries which really helped to calm my skin. That was the first time I tried a mask with blueberries.
Now im excited to try these masks. I
How interesting that frozen blueberries actually have MORE anti-oxidant properties! Also loved that recipe for the facemask you shared? Have you tried it? I think I might be concerned about the berries staining my skin blue haha
Haha don't worry :D One of my favorite mask from lush also contains blueberries. You only need to make sure that the turmeric is from good quality as i have heard that it will stain your face if it is not good quality turmeric. A yellow face is not a trend yet :P.
'YET' being the key word there, haha nothing surprises me anymore, and LUSH is definitely a weakness of mine haha, I'm like a kid in a candy shop at that place.
Haha yes who knows :P Lush is also a weakness for me, definitely one of my favorite shops :D
MM! would love to see someone start a lush review blog here on steemit, what's your favorite item?
Yes that is a great idea :D mmm that is a hard one I think the curly wurly shampoo :) what is your favorite item?
hmm I forget the exact name, but its the ocean salt face scrub that's light blue and comes in a little pot. I'm also obsessed with their face masks that they keep on ice, one I tried with oats and bananna was so soothing- Ive got to steer way clear of their shops because I want to buy up the whole place! Lol
Yes I have seen the salt face scrub, but haven't tried it yet. I am also obsessed with the face masks :P. I love that you get a free face mask when you give back 5 used black lush pots. And If I could I would also buy everything :D.
I like the post brother, upvoted and followed. Follow my advice if u wish, this post is way too long and the majority of "modern people" won't give you their time to read through all of this. You could have easily made 3 posts from this, keep that in mind! :) Kiss = keep it short and simple, or keep it short and stupid
Haha thank you :) I will keep your advice in mind while creating my new post ;)
