For Monday, I will share a very local fruit here in eastern Venezuela known as Ponsigue its real name is Ziziphus mauritiana, is a species of tropical fruit tree, belonging to the Rhamnaceae family according to Wikipedia, and is also known as Badari (Sanskrit), Kul (Bengali), Ber (Hindi), Dongs, Boroi, Bor, Beri and Indian plum. A few days ago my father brought me from the harvest, a tree from his house.

Properties
The fruits are applied on the cuts and ulcers; they are used in lung diseases and fevers; and, mixed with salt and chilies, they occur in indigestion and bile. The dried ripe fruit is a mild laxative. The seeds are sedatives and are taken, sometimes with buttermilk, to stop nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain during pregnancy. They check the diarrhea, and the wounds are cauterized. Mixed with oil, rub in rheumatic areas. The leaves are applied as poultices and are useful in disorders of the liver, asthma and fever and, together with catechu, they are administered when an astringent is needed, as in wounds. The bitter decoction of the bark is astringent and is taken to stop diarrhea and dysentery and relieve gingivitis. The bark paste is applied to the sores. The root is purgative. A decoction of the root is given as a febrifuge, tonic and emmenagogue, and the powdered root sprinkles over the wounds. The juice of the root bark is said to relieve gout and rheumatism. Large doses of the bark or root can be toxic. An infusion of the flowers serves as a lotion for the eyes.
