Cure Almost Anything

My wife is a firm believer in using natural remedies to cure as many maladies as possible. This way, when we actually are sick enough to need antibiotics, they will work. Needless to say, we don't follow the FDA's "warnings".

As such, we use raw honey and garlic to treat most infection, whether internal or external. In fact, we've cured some pretty nasty infected cuts with little more than a topical application of raw honey.

How does it work? For topical treatments, raw honey fights bacteria on three levels. First, it provides an air-proof barriers, starving the bacteria of any oxygen they might need. Second, raw honey has enzymes in it that will work, in a limited way, like an antibiotic. Thirdly, honey's pH is anywhere from 3.5 to 6.1 meaning it is very acidic. Bacteria cannot survive in an acidic environment.

But what about internal infections? This is where garlic comes in... Garlic does two of the three things honey can do - it contains large amounts of enzymes and it also is very acidic (this is why it can be spicy). Loading up with garlic by eating it can get you through many of the cold/flu sessions that would normally keep you in bed. I've even seen folks use garlic juice topically - but they end up smelling like a bread stick.

Here's a video from Bon Appetite that combines the two:

Give it a try next time you're feeling a bit under the weather! Just don't let the FDA know about it...

Excellent post! I like to "candy" wild garlic by submerging it in raw honey for a few months. It is delicious and effective.

Thanks for the kind words. I know my wife is all in on the fermented garlic honey!
