Phuket Beer - A Premium Lager Worth Searching For.

in #food8 years ago

Even living in Thailand, it is not always easy to get Phuket beer which is a shame because its rather tasty. One of the reasons for its scarcity is also one of the things that help to make it delicious. It contains no preservatives or additives and thus is made in small batch quantities every few months.

Launched about 15 years ago, and brewed in Thailand, it aimed to tap the premium beer market. Previously I had only ever been able to order it in luxury resorts and high-end restaurants but form some stroke of luck, my local convenience store now has stock, so tonight I bought myself a few cans.

The taste is a delightfully smooth medium strength Lager. This is due largely to it being brewed with premium German Hops and then mixed with Thai Jasmine Rice. Yes, they mix some rice in with the beer...and it works. The result is superb, and just a little hoppy, creamy and smooth. At 5% its a nice strength too. If you get the opportunity, I highly recommend giving it a try, it is a cut above the other local swill such as Singha, Leo and Chang. A can of Phuket Beer costs 44 Baht( $1.25) from my local shop which also makes it very affordable. I'd best go back and stock up while they still have some.
