Banh Mi - Vietnamese Baguettes for Breakfast...Healthy & Delicious...

in #food7 years ago

I'm a big fan of Banh Mi, which is a simple Vietnamese Baguette stuffed with a bunch of goodies and can be eaten at any time of the day or night.

MY OBSESSION

Last Christmas I was lucky enough to be in Hoi An in Vietnam. According to Anthony Bourdain, there is a shop in Hoi An that make the very best Banh Mi in the World. That's a big claim I know, but after sampling them, they really were out of this world. You can read my steemit post on this amazing roll here - World's Best Banh Mi

TODAY'S BANH MI...

One of my favourite local restaurants in Bangkok has begun serving up a variety of Banh Mi for morning commuters on their way to work. Of course I had to sample one....and then another one the next day....They are delicious and a great meal to start the day. Were they as good as the one in Vietnam? Not quite, but they were still delicious!

I went for the traditional pork Banh Mi, which starts with a warm and slightly crispy white baguette. The meat content comes from a pork-meat loaf and pork liver pate. Sometimes it may also contain some roast pork with crackling, but not this version.

Next, some fresh vegetables such as coriander, mint, and thinly sliced green onions are added together with a leaf of lettuce and a few pieces of tomato. Finally, a small amount of pickled carrot and fresh cucumber strips complete the freshness. Add a little bit of secret sauce (each shop does this differently) and VOILA! you have your delicious Banh Mi baguette. Cheap, fresh, delicious and healthy.

The French left a legacy of delicious coffee and baguettes in Indochina, and for that I am thankful...

Bon Appetit!
