Well, have you ever tasted apple chips?

I love dehydrating food!

I have dehydrated fruits, vegetables, meats- even made yogurt in my dehydrator. My kids have always enjoyed the dehydrated treats made over the years. Its so easy to include them with lunches or as an easy after school snack. There is nothing better after a long hike or while camping! Beef jerkey, YUM! ( I'll share that recipe later!)

So today Steemit friends, join me while I share how I dehydrate Apples!

I have tried several dehydrators over the years. Currently I am using a NESCO 5 tray dehydrator.

You will need:

  • 3-4 organic apples (I love Granny Smith). Make sure they are firm/blemish free. I try to use organic and when possible locally grown
  • Cinnamon
  • Lemon (optional)

I use an apple/coring device, but if you don’t have one you can always peel, core and slice the apples using a paring knife or vegetable peeler.

  1. Slice the apples evenly about ¼-3/8” thick. (Note: you can dip the slices in lemon juice to prevent any browning if you wish. I don’t typically bother with this)

  1. Place the apple slices on dehydrator trays. Make sure the apple slices are not touching each other. This allows air to flow evenly around all slices.

  2. Sprinkle cinnamon on the apple slices.

  3. Place the lid on your dehydrator.

  4. Dehydrator set on 135 degrees (fruit setting)

  5. Dehydrate for 8-10 hours.

  6. Remove the slices. Let them cool before eating.

  7. Store in airtight container.

VOILA!!

I hope you enjoy this recipe. This is a healthy snack you can take with you anywhere. Kids both young and old will love this candy alternative!

Please stay tuned....I have many more dehydrating surprises to share in future posts! Do you have any favorite dehydrated snacks? I would love to hear about them!

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY!
