Pomegranate has been classified as a “Superfruit” because it is so rich in many minerals and antioxidants. But, what have studies come up with as far as their possible health benefits to us?

Breast cancer prevention. According to some Israeli medical studies, the juice can kill off breast cancer cells yet leave healthy cells perfectly in tact. There is also some evidence that the juice of the pomegranate prevents breast cancer cells from developing.

Studies conducted on lab mice show promising results that suggest that it can prevent lung cancer. It should be cautioned, in fairness, that it was studies on mice conducted in the late 1950s which suggested that smoking could be directly tied in to creating lung cancer. However, these results are consistent with the many other health benefits found to likely be derived from this Superfruit.

Similar studies on lab mice have found convincing evidence that it can prevent prostate cancer. Again, the only caution is that mice are not human beings. But, having said that, research that has been conducted on 50 men who were being treated for prostate cancer concluded that eight ounces of the fruit’s juice taken daily stabilized the men’s PSA levels, and diminished or eliminated the need for any further complex treatments like hormonal injections or chemotherapy.

There are studies which suggest that eating pomegranates is good for your teeth. It has been shown in some research that drinking the fruit’s juice or eating the fruit is quite possibly correlated with a prevention of the formation of plaque.

The juice of this Superfruit seems capable of lowering people’s blood pressure. So, if you have high blood pressure issues, you could very well benefit from the nutrients found in the fruit. Furthermore, it seems capable of lowering “bad” cholesterol (LDLs) while raising your levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL).

Osteoarthritis seems to be diminished or even prevented by this fruit, according to several different studies. Furthermore, it seems to prevent plaque buildup on the inner walls of arteries (arteriosclerosis) and might even scrape it off (similar to what moderate amounts of red wine are found to do).

The fruit’s juice seems to protect against neonatal brain injuries if taken by pregnant women. Furthermore, lab mice studies suggest that the juice can prevent or slow the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. The research on the lab mice demonstrated that Alzheimer’s-carrying mice had far less amyloid plaque buildup than control mice when they were given its juice; also, mental tasks were done better by them.

While the research is only suggestive, all of this suggestion all at the same time cannot be doubted. Clearly, if pomegranate is made a regular part of your diet, you are going to experience health benefits–and, those benefits might be dramatic. If nothing else, it’s certainly not going to hurt you, and you’ll feel more energized from this “Superfruit”.
