Goji berries, also known as the wolfberry, is known by many names including mede berry, Barbary matrimony vine, and Duke of Argyll’s tea tree.

It is actually one of the most potent superfoods known to man.

Although it is not known for sure where it actually originated, it has been narrowed down to southwest Asia and southeast Europe.

It is widely cultivated in China.

There are more than 18 amino acids in goji, which have highly beneficial properties. Additionally, goji also has a high level of vitamins and minerals including beta carotene, iron, vitamins B1, B2, B6, and E.

There is also a high content of vitamin C and 21 trace minerals. Vitamins and minerals are not the only potent properties of goji though.

These little superfoods protect the body with a high amount of protein. These proteins, along with the high antioxidant properties, help detoxify the body naturally by removing pollutants from the blood and fighting free radical damage.

As one of the most nutritious foods on the planet, goji berries pack quite a punch. They are small and can be eaten by the handfuls, but just 10 to 30 grams of goji a day will do the trick.

They have more beta carotene than carrots, more vitamin C than oranges, and even more iron than spinach! These vitamins and minerals help fight heart disease, protect the skin, and help repair cell damage.

The goji berry has many uses, and more are being discovered everyday.

Ongoing studies have shown that these wonderful little berries not only have healing properties, but can provide protection against disease and illness, improving your overall quality of life.

There are so many beneficial properties to goji that it is difficult to determine where to begin.

The goji berry has been used historically for centuries to treat skin rashes, chronic liver disease, allergies, eye problems and tuberculosis. Betaine, a main component of goji, is an ideal treatment for calming the nervous system and enhancing memory. Physalin, a compond known as beneficial in the treatment of Hepatitis B, is also found in the goji berry.

Other beneficial substances found in goji include beta sitoserol ( a potent anti-inflammatory), solavetivone (providing anti-fungal and antibacterial properties) and cyperone (a known treatment for ovarian cancer and for helping to lower blood pressure.)

Goji is also widely used as an anti-aging agent. In fact, they may very well be one of the world’s strongest defenses against aging. Of course, these little super-fruits won’t stop you from getting older, but the high antioxidant powers of goji can help reduce the harmful effects of free radical damage.

This damage is a contributing factor in cell death, and thus, ultimately, in aging. These fruits can also help prevent certain types of cancer, boost sexual function in both men and women, and help keep you looking (and feeling) young.

If you want to live a long and healthy life, it is a very good idea to include a serving of goji berries in your daily diet.

I have a goji berry plant, but it takes a year to harvest. :( I guess I have to wait.
