STEEMIT CULINARY CHALLENGE #36: Pork Hock with Sauerkraut and Potatoes
FOOD FIT FOR A GERMAN!
When I thought of food fit for a German, many different dishes came to my mind.
I have decided to make this dish: Eisbein mit Sauerkraut und Kartoffeln.
It's tasty and the amount of meat can't leave any man feeling hungry!
Personally, I think this food is fit not only for a German but for any hungry man.
Ingredients;
Excuse the date (I was so excited to cook for this challenge that I got messed up with the months :P, I only noticed the mistake after everything started boiling...)
Pork Hock (I used smoked one)
Sauerkraut
Potatoes
Water to cover the sauerkraut
Spices: salt, black pepper, bay leaves, whole allspice, cumin, marjoram
I don't have a guideline about the proportions.
I use a large pot and in addition to the hock I add as much sauerkraut I can fit in the pot.
Also add all spices.
Bring this to a boil and continue cooking for another hour or so until the meat becomes soft and tender.
Taste it. If needed, add more seasoning.
Peel the potatoes, add a 1tsp of salt and cook them until soft. Drain. Add a bit of dill for garnish.
Now, your dish should be ready!!!
I hope you like my cooking :)
Enjoy!!!

hahaha...for sure!!! That's the way it should be eaten.
Forgot to include it in the picture..
Ooooh I wondered if anyone would cook a great hunk of meat like this, and here we have one! You're certainly right, any hungry German would wolf this down, it looks awesome @awesome-seven! I love the simplicity of preparation - just one pot for the pork & sauerkraut and another for the potatoes... perfect. I must say your sauerkraut looks really appetising, and I love your choice of spices to flavour it. I will have to try this (minus the pork hock as I'm vegetarian) but I know absolutely that meat eaters will want to make this exact dish! Fabulous presentation, and I'm delighted you were excited to cook for this challenge, that makes me happy to hear!
@woman-onthe-wing, I'm delighted to hear such a nice words from you.
If I inspired someone to cook the pork hock....it's gonna be an awesome feeling!
Oh my oh my that's for me a very hungry woman! Looks soooo good! Thanks for the recipe!🌺🌺
hahaha....thanks so much @cecirod1218
Awesome grub and future sauerkraut! I imagine the logistics of being photographer and cook can be daunting. Keeping the food off the camera and camera gear out of the food. Your kitchen is spotless it looks like delicious magic.
hahaha.......my camera gear is my iPhone @otage...so not much to worry about ;)
Thanks!
Smart phone! Does it clean too!
hahaha...I wish..but sadly no,
I think it needs some upgrades......
Looks so delicious! I always want to buy pork hock but I dont know what to do with it. You have just gave me a super idea. Thanks for sharing and good luck! :-)
thank you very much for your kind words @ikaputri3!
Yummmm, I love these kinds of recipes. I know this was delicious, cooking anything in same water as a smoked ham hock like that gets such a nice flavor from the meat and that bone. Love this recipe.
thanks so much @healthy recipe!
