The “ONE” Protein Bar Taste Test - The Chocolate Ones :)

in #food6 years ago (edited)

Hey friends!

We thought it might be fun to do a little protein bar taste test for you guys (and for ourselves, yes), to try out a few flavors of some protein bars on the market and give you our recommendations :) All protein bars are NOT created equal, both in macros and certainly in taste, so we thought we’d help you narrow it down a little without having to do as much trial and error yourselves!

These “ONE” bars that we chose to try first have some of the best macros on the market, in our opinion… They have anywhere from around 210-230 calories, all of them have 20 grams of protein and 1 gram of sugar - pretty sure that’s where the name “ONE” comes from! They each have a decent amount of fiber, around 10 grams or so, and under 10 grams of fat. Not too shabby!

Plus, these are a lot like candy bars to us - they have coatings on the outside reminiscent of chocolate, sometimes sprinkles, and little inclusions in the middle that make them more treat-like. When we’re really trying to buckle down and take a break from sweets (this mainly applies to me, not really to Chris - I’m the one with the really gnarly sweet tooth!), we often turn to products like these to get the job done.

It’s nice to have a little something sweet that fits easily into pretty much any macro counting or nutrition approach :) it’s an easy way to “hack the system” and get a little extra nutrition in along with your treat - two birds with one stone, you know? I’m always on the lookout for ways to accomplish that!

We also had a great experience while we were shopping for these bars - we went to a local supplement store called Nutrishop in Santa Barbara, and the employee working there not only gave us an additional bar to try for free, but he also gave us some awesome shaker cups as well! What a nice surprise! I’ll definitely bring business back there since they were so kind and generous :)

So here is our final rank for the ones we tried (all the flavors we could find that had chocolate in them):

Almond Bliss (Our favorite!)

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Chocolate Brownie

Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake

Cookies And Creme

Cookie Dough Chocolate Chunk (ONE Basix Bar - different from the others)

We actually learned a little bit about the Cookie Dough Chocolate Chunk bar after we made our video… Unfortunately it really suffered in terms of flavor and landed its spot at the bottom of the list as our least favorite, but it makes sense - upon closer examination, we realized this bar is gluten-free, naturally sweetened with stevia (an acquired taste), and contains no sugar alcohols or sucralose… Basically a lot of things that make regular protein bars palatable are missing from this bar. So if any of those factors are important to you, maybe give it a shot? I can’t promise you’ll enjoy the taste, but maybe it’ll grow on you in time :)

Anyway, I hope you guys like this little video, and if you’d like to see more of this kind of thing!

Also, let me know what you’d like to see or hear about next!

Yes! Thank you so much!! :)

mmm protein bars. Growing up I remember the king of the protein bars seemed to be the PowerBar brands or CliffBar. Something like that, lots of rock climbers ate them, oh those were the good ole days when I was in amazing rock climbing shape. lol Now this is my idea of a protein bar lol...F8WXM9KJ3EPIWC9.LARGE.jpg

Totally, I remember that too! But mainstream protein bars have come a long way since then luckily for us! Haha if all protein bars were like the photo above, I'd eat them every day!!! :D

hahahaha :) Yeah I have had some Z-bars recently. I think they are called Z-bars, they are the gluten and dairy free bars. I think they are actually made by Clif. And I am not sure if they are protein bars. but they were fairly tasty. lol

you sexy people rock @annemariemay hugs and love to you both

You are so sweet :) hugs and love to you back @banditqueen from both of us!

Enjoy every bite of it

Indeed! Definitely not a "free" food, right? :)

I'm really weak when it comes to sweets, mainly chocolate, and have been trying to cut it out of my food intake as much as possible. Thankfully I grew accustomed to stevia pretty easily and might still give the cookie dough bars a try even though they ended up at the bottom of your list :)

Seems tasty the one protein bar
