Pastillas is a milk based confectionery. It was actually originated from the province of Bulacan, of course in the beautiful country of the Philippines. Pastillas is best served as a desert and yummy whether refrigerated or not.

Let me show you how it is made:

First is that we have to come up with a mixture of powdered milk, condensed milk and butter. Make sure that all ingredients must be mixed well in order to achieve the softness and smoothness of its texture.

After preparing for the mixture, the second step will be the molding. You just have to mold the mixture in any kind of molder you prefer.

For us, we are using a silicone molder which we bought in the mall. As you can see, the shape of the molder is square with the alphabet letters, probably around 1x1 in width and in length.

When the molder is all filled up, gently remove the mixture from it and you have now a square shaped mixture.

For the third step, simply coat the square shaped mixture with white sugar. Take note that it doesn’t have to be fully coated. The use of the sugar is to just give the pastillas a bit more sweet and crisp.

When done with sugar coating, you may now proceed to the last step which is to toast it using the oven.

You may witness in here that all are well arranged in the baking pan. When placing the sugar coated mixture in the pan, make sure that there is enough space in between because it grows a little as it is baked.

Now when everything is placed accordingly, set the oven’s temperature in 180 degrees and pre heat for at least 5 minutes. When done with pre heating the oven, you may now bake the mixture for 15 to 20 minutes until it becomes brown. I advise you to be attentive not to burn it okay?

There you have it, a sweet, smooth, milky and tasty toasted pastillas. When cooled down, place it in a container and refrigerate it. You may also not refrigerate it but make sure to keep it sealed to maintain its freshness.

By the way, I almost forgot. Maybe you are wondering what is/are the secret with my mom’s toasted pastillas.

So as promised, I’ll tell it to all of you.

The secret is………………

YOU HAVE TO BAKE IT WITH LOVE. :)

Thank you for reading! Try this at home and spread the sweetness and the love. :)
