Grilled Stingray for Dinner Anyone?
Yummy for the Tummy
Now this is something special. Each time I visit Kedai Kopi Hiltop, an eatery outlet in Kota Kinabalu Borneo, I will be sure to have a grilled stingray (Ikan Pari Panggang). In Malaysia, grilled stingray is a common street food usually run by independent stalls located at local coffee shop (also at the markets or roadside).
This particular one is about 700 grams and cost RM35 (USD8.40). The stall vendor marinates it with a special home made sauce before placing it on a banana leaf, which then would be destined for the griller. Then he covers the whole thing, my guess is to create some kind of pressurized cooking effect. Grilled stingrays are amazingly good to eat with a little bit of lime squeezed on it accompanied by a sambal or any kind of chili paste.
Stingrays are amazing creatures. It's said that stingrays are related to sharks. There's about 220 types of stingrays in the world. There are deep ocean stingrays as well as freshwater ones.
