A really good idea helping our kids to appreciate food
What a great idea
This is just fantastic and a great idea by German supermarket Lidl. They entered the Irish market in July 2000 and have slowly but surely eaked out a solid foothold.
They recently started this offer, where every €20 you spend gets you a little vegetable growing pack.
Great thing to do with the kids and teach them where food comes from
My kids absolutely loved helping out in planting these with me today.
Very clever design
They present these in a very tidy little box which includes your initial pot, soil, seed bag and marker..
That little brown circle is tightly compressed soil. You place it on a saucer and add 30ml of clean water. Wait a minute and hey presto you have some nice wet soil... Genius!! Here is a before and after :o)

So, we planted 6 of the bad boys...
So here they are now on the windowsill in our kitchen. They'll stay here for a few weeks until they get going and soon after we'll transfer them into bigger pots.
The boys have absolutely loved getting their fingers dirty and seeing where vegetables come from!

This reminds me of the time our national school teacher showed us how to pot a plant and look after it, the teacher then assigned a pupil which happened to be a girl to look after and water the plant regularly, unfortunately the plant never got watered and dried up.... it was at that point I decided that this girl was not wife material 😄. (Just kidding I’m sure she is a great person now)
