People do not want to be sued for selling expired foods. They play it safe by giving a date that ensures food was safe. I remember taking some beverages that was supposed to have expired because I didn't check the date, beverage was good.
My point exactly. Some foods as long as they are not attacked by any storage factors they are still good to go.
