Lagosians Resort to "Buka Food" - Food Business Thrives In Lagos State.
In the Popular city of Lagos Sate, the most populated city in Nigeria, everyone is busy hustling to get their daily bread, people hardly have time to cook. This is so because they leave their homes very early in the morning in order to beat the intense traffic on their way to work. For some, waking up early to prepare a meal seems too stressful, they rather get to their places of employment first, then when they are settled in, they look for a restaurant to either have breakfast or lunch or both. After the close of work, they experience same traffic grid which makes them get home late at night. They feel so exhausted after the days work and often opt for the popular buka food as a last resort. This means more than half of the population in Lagos State have either their breakfast, lunch or dinner from a restaurant on a daily basis.
The rich patronise posh restaurants or fast food outlets, due to its hygienic nature.
While the average man or those with little means patronise the local restaurants for their meals due to its affordability.
Some of these restaurants have upgraded to the extent of employing dispatch riders who deliver food to offices, residential buildings and apartments based on a clients order.
Which of these categories of people do you fit into?
The food business is indeed booming!
Research has shown that "people spend a minimum of N300.00 in a less expensive restaurant and a minimum of N1,800 in a Posh restaurant".
In my street, the number of restaurants or food outlets is outrageous and they all have regular patronage from people in the community. I have a bachelor living in my compound, he has a son who is about 11 years old. Every morning, before leaving for work, he gives his son some money to buy food for breakfast which he will take to school and also use the remainder to feed for the rest of the day. I asked the child how much his father gives him daily for feeding, he said N300.00, so in a week he spends about N2,100.00 on feeding.
Well, you might say it is because the father is a bachelor who has to go to work to hustle but It will also surprise you to know that most families also indulge in this practice. For example, a mother will give her five (5) children the sum of N50.00 each to buy rice from the local restaurant for breakfast, in the afternoon they will also be given some money to buy beans to eat with bread. Well, I have not observed how they feed in the evening or at night, lol. They may probably have resorted to this feeding pattern because they feel it is cheaper patronising the local restaurants rather than preparing a meal for the entire family due to the increasing cost of food items. I wont blame them, will you? This is what the present economic situation in our country Nigeria has forced most families into.
I love cooking as my hobby. My present environment (Lagos State) has got me thinking, why not also join the bandwagon, the food business by either opening up a restaurant or if I have a huge capital, a Posh Restaurant or a Fast Food Outlet so I can also profit from this type of hustle (lol), since it is one of the most thriving businesses in Lagos State right now. Well, time will tell!.
Conclusively, the food business has been and is still thriving in Lagos State because so long as so you are selling, Lagosians are willing to buy anything from you (lol).

Lagos is a land of opportunities and if you are hardworking and prayerful, you most likely will make it.
Food business is also one good business.
I remember five years back when I was still in paid employ and left my house by 10 minutes to five daily. I would get to VI latest 6am and you need to see the throng of people around a woman frying Ankara with bread.
She made so much money the last I heard she was setting up a house.
It's easy to make money in Lagos if you can throw away pride and work hard.
@Paigegirl true words.
