Tuttle Bottoms Monster: North American Folklore
The Tuttle Bottoms Monster of Saline County, Illinois has been haunting the swampy areas of the Saline River Watershed for generations. This strange creature is not your typical swamp monster, lacking reptilian features, with mammalian features instead.

The Tuttle Bottoms Monster is described as gigantic, being at least 8 feet long. His most distinct feature is a long snout, like that of an anteater. Some report that the beast is bipedal, while others have spotted it walking on four legs. The animal is said to somewhat resemble a bear, as a hulking, bristly-furred beast.Although the word "monster" is in it's name, there are no reports of attacks. In fact, the creature seems to innocuously go about it's business when spotted, instead of running away. This lack of fear of humans is often mentioned in reports of the Tuttle Bottoms Monster.
The creature is legendary in Illinois, with many frantic reports coming from the area. Over the course of 28 years, the Police Chief of Saline County recalled personally receiving over 50 reports of this strange animal. Some conspiracy theorist believe that the creature was crafted by scientists working for the government, then intentionally released in the area. Others believe the Tuttle Bottoms Monster may actually be a relict population of a prehistoric anteater species.

Oh interesting. It's not very often that you hear about a mamilian swamp monster. They are almost always reptilian as you pointed out. Truly a unique cryptid. Very cool

There is something about dark water that really freaks me out. The idea of a large monster in dark water is basically my nightmare. One saving grace though is that the tuttles snout doesn't look adapted to eating humans. That's a plus.
