Boat Hound: Fearsome Critter

Perhaps the name “Boat Hound” is a misnomer for this fearsome critter. The Boat Hound of folklore more closely resembles a reptile than a canine. Said to have large, frog like feet and a mouth similar to an alligator’s, only larger. Along with these strange attributes, the Boat Hound is blessed with having four ears, two on the front of his long body and two on the back. The double sets of ears give the beast an amazing sense of hearing, and it is said no sound from any direction escapes his many ears.

The most notable trait of the Boat Hound is his resemblance to a boat. As a cautionary tale for properly tying one’s boat, the legend of the Boat Hound says this beast emerges from lakes at night to hunt untied or poorly tied boats, which he then devours. Although the Boat Hound prefers to bodies of water, he can thrive in the forests surrounding his aquatic environment as well.

A nocturnal creature, when the Boat Hound is not hunting boats at night, it slumbers below the surface of water during the day. The Boat Hound has a preference for the silty bottoms of lakes, but he will rest at the bottom of a river as well.
