Another interesting thing I recently read about, and is relevant to undead vampires:

An US startup is offering a questionable service: by transfusing blood of young people, the ageing process is supposed to be delayed. Yes, you probably need to re-read this... and still can't believe it, eh? Here is the link, read it and despair!

Hahaha! Yeah, I've seen this floating around science magazine headlines on Facebook. It's been debunked as having no benefit in the way they use it, but it does make for some intriguing plot bunnies.

Lovecraft would have had a field day with this idea, the secret to vampire immortality lies in the rejuvenating effects of juvenile blood, pulling the ether of children into their own frailing life-force.

I guess you could say the founders of the company are the vampires sucking the money their victims earn with their blood. Modern vampires are more scary than those of the 18th century.

This series of articles is awesome, very useful for a quick reference for many purposes. I like that you included chemistry as a way to animate the dead, because it is a rarely seen technique; it is explored in The Case of Dexter Ward by HP Lovecraft, where the sorceror Curwen uses alchemy and necromancy to prolong his life and experiment on unwilling subjects, collecting their essential salts!

Thank-you! I did not know about that, I still have quite a bit to read from Lovecraft and will now get my hands on The Case of Dexter Ward. That is so cool! You're right, though, it is an aspect barely touched on and I, for one, would like to see more of it in spec-fic.
