Lamprocapnos spectabilis, Bleeding Heart. A romantic plant. (Photos by sard@rt)

Lamprocapnos spectabilis or Dicentra spectabilis (bleeding heart or Asian bleeding-heart) is a species of flowering plant in the poppy family Papaveraceae.
It is valued in gardens and in floristry for its heart-shaped pink and white flowers, borne in spring.
As its name says, it's really a spectacular flower!

The outer petals are bright fuchsia-pink, while the inner ones are white. The flowers strikingly resemble the conventional heart shape, with a droplet beneath. The pure white-flowered 'Alba', somewhat more robust than the species, is a popular cultivar.
This beautiful Lamprocapnos spectabilis variety "Alba" I photographed at the Botanical Garden of Madrid.

Easy to grow these plants, however, do not like direct exposure to the sun.
I managed to find the rhizomes of this particular plant and grow them in my terrace. Very satisfying to see these beautiful flowers bloom.

I really like them so much! A romantic plant this Bleeding Heart.

thanks for your time!

I so love them, I have had my plant for over 40 years now. So did not know they were in the poppy family though, very cool.

But this is fantastic! Nice to have plants for a long time ... they are part of the family!

It sure it is, as it was from my mothers garden many, many years ago. I have had it at every home I owned since I was in my late 20's.

So beautiful... lovely photo @sardrt!

many thanks my friend!

Non sapevo avessero anche un secondo nome così romantico, un pichino dark ;)
