Flower with smell of chocolate

This flower is native to Mexico, it was thought to be extinct at all, but then a miracle happened, biologists accidentally discovered a few wild plants. Black cosmos (Cosmos atrosanguineus), or as it is called chocolate cosmos is a unique perennial plant, with a height of not more than fifteen meters, with unusual color and aroma of chocolate.

That flower in summer has a strong smell of chocolate with vanilla, which turned out to be so attractive for people, flowers massively disrupted, and unique plant died. And since the nature of cosmos seeds have fairly low germination and viability, it has almost disappeared. Since this flower is also very vulnerable to sudden changes in weather, especially frost, in wild species it is now not found. All the crops in his homeland – is the fruit of years of work of breeders in the recovery of this species.

Chocolate cosmos is no longer considered an endangered plant, but now its seeds abroad are expensive. We have it bred not only by seed, but by dividing the roots. Modern varieties of light-loving and cold-resistant, and have kept still and undemanding to soil, though of course loose and nutrient-rich earth colors get much bigger and smell like chocolate more intense.
