Why do we still have the death penalty?

Ledell Lee was executed in 2017 after the state of Arkansas wouldn't allow new DNA testing to be brought into consideration. When the testing was finally made public after Lee's death, his guilt more than came into question. Namely, more likely than not, the state executed an innocent man.

Now Florida is refusing to learn from Arkansas.

So, dear friends who still support the death penalty, I have to ask why you still won't budge.

The two men in Florida have already been in prison for 45 years. There seems to be some reasonable doubt that could arise as a result of new evidence.

Is the state of Florida so afraid to have to own up to the possibility that they got it wrong that they're willing to possibly kill an innocent person? Are they so incredibly not worried about it being revealed that the state killed an innocent person that they don't care? What's the point of killing a person whose life has already been irreparably destroyed? What's the utility in dismissing potentially important evidence?

This isn't justice. This is blood lust.

At the very least, we have to be twenty-five years removed from any stories like this before I'll take any argument in favor of the death penalty seriously.
