Legalizing Bittorent – where watchers are the middle man between advertisers and content creators.

Ever used Bittorent? Or Popcorn Time? File sharing applications like these allow users to stream videos from their devices by allocating personal bandwidth to help the community stream faster.

They work like this – To increase speed, videos are broken into pieces and sent into a web of downloads and uploads. When users stream a video, they are downloading these pieces of the video from the interconnected web, once each piece is downloaded onto your computer it is automatically uploaded back to the web for downloading from other user (seeding) – thus increasing network bandwidth and overall experience.

This self-sustaining ecosystem (if you choose to call it that) concept started in the 90’s and has bypassed all regulations and continued to flourish. However, there has been a 15-year fight between Bittorent and content creators, basically because creators don’t receive any monetary rewards for their content being shared. Blockchain smart contracts have opened up a new door to solve this problem.

Flixxo’s goal is to create the FIRST LEGAL P2P FILE SHARING NETWORK. Legal is the keyword.

But you can download these torrent services and stream for free today. So why Flixxo? Why are they offering a monetized token for something that you can get for free? If you have a VPN its basically impossible to get caught and fined for participating in illegal file sharing. Well, kind of, there is lots of debate about this topic that can be researched independently. Either way, it is illegal to watch copywritten content without paying for it. Flixxo aims to change this game, allowing users to pay for watching with money they’ve earned from advertisements.

First off it should be noted that the app will be available for computer, tablet, and smart phone devices.
Previously your benefit for uploading content (sharing personal bandwidth) is the ability to download content. Flixxo will add a different level of rewards to users for participating in their ecosystem, tokens! Don’t get discouraged as that word is thrown around too much these days. Owners have the right to charge for their content and pay out a percentage of its profits to seeders. The higher percentage will receive more views. If a user doesn’t have enough FLIXX to watch a program, they can choose a sponsored version. For a detailed explanation of how this works I have included an excerpt from Flixxo’s Whitepaper at the bottom of the article.

There is no need to fund your account with Bitcoin or Fiat, first time users will be allowed to participate in the ecosystem to start earning FLIXX. You simply get paid to watch advertisers content with FLIXX and then spend your FLIXX to watch the content you want. This is the same way Youtube works, however the users are the middle man between advertisers and creators.

In YouTube, creators of content are paid by advertisers to advertise over their content. Users are forced to watch ads in order to view the content. Flixxo simply pays users FLIX for watching ads and then allows them to spend those FLIXX on content to view.

For advertisers – This opportunity to pay users to watch their content opens up a new world. A July 2017 report by ad agency Jun Group, found that users a more willing to watch an advert if they are rewarded to do so, obviously. Flixxo will be the marketplace where an advertiser can predetermine the reward for a user to watch its content. Flixxo will take a 10% commission from these specific marketing campaigns. For context – Youtube rakes in $6,000,000,000 USD each year for its ad. None of which goes to the watchers.

How to avoid porn and disrespectful content? – Flixxo will initially centralize their allowed content to avoid these inclusions. However, they have stated this will be an evolving portion and their goal is to forever move towards a decentralized content censorship.

Okay so what about the team? What do they know about this ecosystem?

HOW IT WORKS taken from the whitepaper –

“Meet Jean-Paul. He is a French director and producer, and he has decided to give Flixxo a chance. He has connected his computer to Flixxo and has told the network he had made available his last movie, called “French toast” in high quality and with options on subtitles in many languages. He has set a price of 100 Flixx (Flixxo tokens) and has offered to share 50% of his earnings with the network. He has also set a warranty of 5000 Flixx blocked for two weeks in the Distribution Smart Contract. Otto, a guy in Finland, has been looking for Jean-Paul ́s new film without success on his streaming app, and then on BitTorrent networks, where he had only found a bad quality copy of the movie dubbed to Russian with Spanish subtitles, and got his computer infested with some funny viruses. Otto sends those 100 Flixx straight to Jean-Paul and enjoys a great quality copy of the movie, streaming French Toast from his cell phone straight to his TV using a Chromecast device. Even though Jean-Paul has already earned his first 100 Flixx, those funds will be controlled by the Distribution Smart Contract and will be held for seven days, in order to assure there are no licensing conflicts nor disputes.

After watching French Toast, Otto decided to seed it (in fact he was seeding it from the moment he had downloaded a single piece of it). Lionel in Argentina is also looking for French Toast. Lionel has no credit card so he can ́t pay for a subscription on the most popular streaming platforms. A friend of his invited him to participate in the network, and sent him a welcome reward of 100 Flixx. Lionel is keen to pay straightly those 100 Flixx to his favorite French director. In this case, as there is – along with Jean-Paul – another seeder from which Lionel is downloading the movie, Jean-Paul shares 50% of its earnings with both seeders. By now Jean-Paul has already earned 175 Flixx and Otto has 25 Flixx for watching new content. 17 Now Otto wants to watch Jeaninne ́s content. She ́s a famous YouTuber with a lot of followers (really, A LOT) but she is tired of the unfair revenue model of that platform. She has already allocated her content on Flixxo network, setting a price of 30 Flixx per view and sharing 75% of her earnings with the network (although this amount might sound a little bit too generous, she will earn much more per view than on any other platform). As Jeaninne has a partner who shoot and edit her videos, they have decided to split the revenues 60%-40% straight on the Distribution Smart Contract. Since Otto doesn’t have enough Flixx for watching the content he wants, and he doesn't want to buy more Flixx nor wait to earn more credits by sharing Jean-Paul ́s movie, he asks for Sponsored Content.

Mr. Fox is the Marketing Director of a car manufacturing company in Germany. They spend millions of dollars each year on digital advertisement, and they have found that the actual models are not working anymore. More and more, consumers use ad-blockers or they skip video AD as fast as possible on most of the platforms. Mr. Fox has heard of the new model of Flixxo, and gives it a try. Elizabeth has been publishing her videos long enough on the platform – so she already has a lot of Flixx – and Mr. Fox reaches her in order to buy her tokens for his Ad campaign. He pays 1ETH for 33,000 Flixx (1 Flixx=$0,01), setting a market price for Flixxo ́s token. Advertisers spend an average $0,10 per an effective and complete view of their content. Content creators reach only a small portion of that amount, as there are a lot of intermediaries (cut of the platform, taxes, exchanges)”
