TV

The westerns were ending only one or two more years to go for them being replaced by the variety show, the police and detective shows, the music shows, and the comedy shows.

Gunsmoke made it 1975, Bonanza to 1973, The High Chaparral and The Virginian until 1971.

1970 Birthed:
The Mary Tyler Moore show, The Odd Couple, Flip Wilson Comedy Show and of course The Partridge Family show. That was just a few of the shows that came to TV in the year 1970.

Movies

Onto the Big Screen, not so big nor as important today as it was in 1970.

Released on January 24th, 1970 Mash would go on to spawn a very popular TV show of the same name.

January 25th, 1970 Looks like war was on everyone's mind in Hollywood, the day after Mash, Patton is released.

June 22nd, 1970, Kelly's Heroes is released.

Just a few of the movies released in 1970, three movies which I think are/were pretty good.

Science and Technology

Apollo Thirteen was launched on April 11, it was the biggest science story of the year, and for quite some time. You can read about it in history books or view it through the eyes of Tom Hanks and Hollywood in his movie.

Fiber optics: In 1970 Corning Glass announced that it had created a glass fiber so clear that it could be used to communicate pulses of light. Soon after GTE and AT&T began experiments to transmit sound and image data using fiber optics, and transformed the communications industry. While still in use today, fiber optics for communications has been replaced pretty much by Wi-Fi. So the next time you place that Corning Ware dish in the oven, now you have a little bit of the rest of the story.

Radio

Sourced from Wiki:

July 11 – "American Top 40", hosted by Oakland, California radio personality (and show co-founder) Casey Kasem, is launched in national syndication. Created by Kasem and Don Bustany, and distributed by Watermark Inc., the program features the top 40 hits from Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart. The show is a success and sets the standard for radio countdown programs for years to come.

That concludes my second look back at the year 1970. My first one was here: @bashadow's flashbackfridays launch

I hope you enjoyed this one or both of them, and maybe think about doing your flashback post next Friday.
