We will always be tempted while here on earth.
Every day I pray to be forgiven for past transgressions and sins. I am thankful that God, the Father, sent his only son, Jesus, to die for our sins. I am humbled in every way possible by Jesus' sacrifice.
Once you have asked for forgiveness and you sincerely repent, God will forgive you and you don't need to be praying every now and then for past transgressions. Our lord is merciful.

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
