Amos 5:12-14

12
For I know how many are your offenses
and how great your sins.

There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes
and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.
13
Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times,
for the times are evil.

14
Seek good, not evil,
that you may live.
Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you,
just as you say he is.

Caring For The Poor And Disadvantaged

In this world where there are both rich and poor, people who have material wealth and so many who do not, it is common for the wealthy to take advantage of those who have little. So, those who already have more than they need often get richer at the expense of those who are still in need (Psalm 9-10; Isaiah 3:14-15).

In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,
who are caught in the schemes he devises. - Psalm 10:2.

But the Bible strongly opposes the mistreatment of those who are disadvantaged or in need. If we are truly obeying God and following Jesus' example, we will be willing to sacrifice in order to provide in order to serve and provide for the needs of others.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. - 1John 3:16.

In fact, the Bible questions our love for God if we do not meet people's need: "if anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth" (1John 3:17-18).
True love for God and for others is not simply a matter of caring or feeling concerned. Godly love is active and touches people in practical ways. The Bible has much to say about how God's people are to treat the poor and disadvantaged.
